the story so far

Epilogue

As she ran, the footsteps behind her grew in pace as their thuds echoed louder. She had been running for what seemed like hours. Her legs ached, her mind race, and her body soon would begin to fail. The places where she was bare skinned were scraped and rip by thorn and branch. She almost let out a sigh of relief as a cave appeared. She hurriedly ran in. She never stopped to look back she just ran further and further down the cave till she hit a wall and fell. As she sat recovering, she listened intently for sounds of something coming, but in here it had grown silent. She breathed a sigh of relief when she felt something grab her ankle. She suddenly smelled their foul stench again. She screamed as the creatures started to drag her out of the tunnel. Their eyes flickered a brilliant light up ahead of themselves so they may see their path. It was in that flicker that she first caught salvation.

They both stopped when in one of their flickers they caught a glimpse of something large charging towards them. They moved out the way and their eyes begin to flicker in a strange patterns. The strange light flashes only lead to the girl’s odd perception of what was happening. To her mind it looked as if a large bear was ripping apart at that which tried to drag her away. She managed to get to her feet. As she stood there, her hands ignited surrounded by black energies. She ran past both of them and let loose a brilliant stream of magic at the cave ceiling. As the rocks crumbled away, they began to block the tunnel. As she turned to look back at the events behind her the lights had stopped flickering. Now she stared into the blackness but only for a brief second. She winced as a brilliant light lit up the cavern. She had managed to an alcove only five feet from a large cavern. In the middle of the cavern a large bear dragged the two monsters.

She ran after them. She hoped the bear would not kill them so that she may question them of why they were chasing her. As she neared where the bear had entered only a small boy of thirteen sat upon a tree stump. He was eating copious amounts of food. She halted. She felt like rushing over and gorging herself upon the feast for it had been days since she had eaten real food. She approached slowly and with her magic levitated a piece of bread and cheese towards herself. The food was almost to her when the boy’s voice broke her concentration.

“You know you can join me if you want.”

She ran to the table and began to stuff her mouth with the food. She drank plenty of the drink he had on the table. She did not quite know what it was but it tasted good. As she ate, she began to feel more tired. She laid down upon a large area of bedding. As she dozed, she imagined being back with her father. It was not that long ago, but to her it had been ages. Even the boy’s cry did not rouse her.

“HEY THAT’S MY BE…………………….

Chapter One
The First Moon

Her father had waited for this day. It was the first moon after her fifteenth birthday. Today they would go to the Council of Nevar. They would decide if she would be worthy of continuing her training in the Magic of Rohvalah. He promised her mother she would become a mage. It was her mother’s dying wish that her daughter would follow in her footsteps. If only she could have seen Aris now. She would be so proud, but she was taken by the plague. Aris Vale was only two at the time. Sidrian Vale, her father, gathered his oldest son and Aris and traveled with them to the kingdom of Gilm to live with his father. Their in Gilm his father got her admission to the best school of magic in the eight kingdoms.

In the school, she excelled at the arts. Her powers lead her to study the more arcane and archaic magic. Many of her fellow students were studying agricultural and mechanical magic, but she was not adept at it. What she showed great promise in was learning old languages. With this ability she soon could read the Books of Va, The Scrolls of Tilor, and the Prophecy Magic of Zzaleal. She soon apprenticed with Grand Administrata Dolan Kilvorn. It was he who would decide if she would continue her education.

Sidrian called out for his daughter. He felt the need to tell her of “The Sun King” yet again. She had grown cold to the stories over the years. She passed them off as pure myth just as everybody in the 8 kingdoms did these days. A story of an ancient king who unified all their lands was purely preposterous. Or so they thought. He still felt the need to tell them though. As Aris entered the room she sat at the table and began to eat a bowl of soup he had prepared for her. As she ate he sat down across from her and began to tell her a story she had never heard though, the story of the L’Raken. She knew of this creature for he once carved one out of wood and re-enacted the story for the children of the village. Even though she saw this performance she was not privy to the entire story. None were for the true story could shake a normal man to his core. As he started, her eyes rolled upward so as she was looking into his. He noticed a gleam from old had returned for a brief second then disappeared. He feared not for deep down she was listening and deep down is where the knowledge was to be needed.

And he began…..

In the twenty third year of his rule, The Sun King left his kingdom and made way to the frostbitten Crags of Karzagg. These crags stretched across the entire northern portion of his kingdom. During the summer they were covered with crops, but as fall came upon the lands they became a harsh and bitter waste. In the depths of those crags near Mt. Mor, was the home of a beast which had tormented his ancestors going back thousands of years. The beast would come and go as it pleased. It destroyed crops, it destroyed homes, and it ravaged a people. A people who until recently were frightened of ever building any sort of worldly possession. Their homes were all sparse and barren for fear of their destruction. Recently though the words of their king had taken hold and they began to enjoy their wealth. He realized their faith in him was as great as he hoped it would ever be. He must do something to sure up his people. With this motivation to ensure loyalty, he set out to vanquish, Emgriar'ahmalel.

The blade of Dolmrang hummed as it guided The Sun King through the caves. It had taken a year for him to reach Mt. Mor. He worried not for his people for they believed he was off in a far land gaining a new ally. He did not feel disgust at this lie for it was better they not know his true mission. Dolmrang had tasted the blood of the beast 200 hundred years prior when his great grandfather fought the beast away on one of its many attacks upon the population.
